ARCHANGEL2.0 NGFW 2023 QUIZZ CLUE Nr 4

A defense system against cyberattacks must consider every factor that could directly or indirectly aid malicious individuals in infiltrating a computer system. These attackers aim to either enrich themselves through Ransomware or engage in espionage, steal data, secrets, or cause harm for malevolent purposes.

Professional and popular literature continually highlights the dangers associated with internet connections, emphasizing the necessity for extreme caution and adopting a ZERO TRUST mindset when interacting with anything online. This analogy can be compared to wearing masks during a pandemic.

While exercising caution is crucial, it alone is insufficient to fully protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of personal or professional data, as human errors and manipulations can still pose risks.

To strengthen your data protection, using antivirus software is strongly recommended. However, malicious actors are constantly evolving, creating new threats that may outpace the adaptation of antivirus solutions. This highlights the need for continuous updates and patches to mitigate potential disasters. Comparatively, antivirus functions like a vaccine during an epidemic, but it can only protect against specific types of viruses.

Another critical layer of defense is a robust firewall. Not just any firewall will do; it should act as an anti-missile shield, capable of countering various cyberattacks, regardless of their origin or intent.

Analogous to securing a protected area from burglars, internal protection systems like MICRO-SEGMENTATION or compartmentalization are essential by forcing intruders to renew their attacks and increasing their risk of exposure, this strategy limits the damage they can inflict.

However, for this protection system to be truly effective, it must follow the ZERO TRUST principle to its fullest extent. It should be meticulously rigorous, allowing only authorized access, rather than relying on trust assumptions, applying the RULE OF EVERYTHING IS FORBIDDEN except what is explicitly authorized, contrary to the usual approach.

Adopting such an approach ensures that assets are robustly protected, regardless of human behavior, and bolstering overall cybersecurity.

The integrated defense system of ARCHANGEL 2.0 offers comprehensive protection for your peace of mind, securing your IT installations, mobile and fixed devices, servers, and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of your data.

A lesson in cyber safety

In an article published on 19 June 2023 in globalsecuritymag.fr/, Benoit Grunemwald, cybersecurity expert at ESET France, recounts the cyberattack suffered by REDDIT, an American social news aggregation, content rating, and discussion website, in February of the same year, and draws some lessons from it. This article follows the hackers' attempts, last repeated on 16 June, to obtain a ransom of 4.5 million dollars in order to delete the 80 GB of data stolen from the company, to which the company did not respond. The data was not encrypted, so the company did not lose it. However, the same cannot be said for its reputation.  Benoit Grunemwald explains that " It all started with a phishing email to harvest employee account data. All it takes is for a single employee to be trapped for cyber criminals to gain access to internal documents, software code, employee data , etc." He goes on to stress the " need to integrate in-depth security methods and resources, such as zer

IDS – IPS – DPI – FIREWALL

Understanding Key Elements of Cyber Defense Against Attacks  In the realm of network security, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), and Firewalls are vital concepts, each with distinct roles, functions, and purposes. This study delves into these components, their capabilities, and the significance of their integration in a holistic cybersecurity strategy. The landscape of cybersecurity hinges on the interplay of IDS, IPS, DPI, and Firewalls, each addressing different facets of network protection. This study elucidates their core functions, while emphasizing their symbiotic relationship within an efficient defense system. This while keeping in mind that the capabilities that will be described are those that each of the components should ideally have but whose effectiveness actually depends on the functions they are equipped with, the quality with which these functions have been created and the level of excellence with which
